A guardian has a legal obligation, or fiduciary duty, to act in the ward’s best interest.
The purpose of a guardian is to protect the vulnerable person from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Additionally, the guardian typically oversees the welfare, safety, and care for that individual, while trying to preserve the individual’s independence and rights as much as possible.
These responsibilities can include taking care of housing, food, medical, education, financial, and other basic needs.
